Grant #571

Awesome Foundation Disability Chapter

February 19, 2024

Showcasing Awesomeness in the Disability Community

Did you know that only 2% of philanthropic dollars go to disability advocacy? Tiffany Yu and Alice Wong sure do. Two self-identified disabled women of color, they started the Awesome Foundation’s Disability Chapter in 2017. Since then, they’ve awarded over $80,000 in grant money to 80+ projects all over the world. They’ve responded to 7,000 submissions, and they’ve drawn like-minded people to their cause. In the years their chapter has been active, over 30 disabled people have joined as trustees to help distribute funds.

Our grant will help them continue this vital work. It’s a small step, but an important one: If Tiffany and Alice are able to continue to award one $1,000 grant each month, they’ll surpass over 100 grants in 2025. Already, their work is making a difference. They’ve backed programs like the Asian Americans with Disabilities Initiative, which empowers the next generation of AAPI leaders, and the Autistic People of Color Fund, which supports mutual aid efforts. And there’s so much more they want to do. We’re so proud to be a small part of this story.
