Grant #30

Coconut Tree Climbers

September 9, 2013

The ladders of success for women in India’s Kanyakumari District come by way of coconut trees!

The Crescent Educational Society, an NGO that supports the socio-economic development of women from rural communities, is introducing Women’s Livelihood Groups — and their first program will offer local women intensive training in the art of coconut tree climbing.

Coconuts provide a number of opportunities for revenue generation, including milk, husk, shells, meat, arts and lumber. With this AWB grant 50 women will spend one week learning to climb on machines, then graduate with a skill that will provide them limitless opportunity!
