Grant #15

Creating the Future

May 27, 2013

A living laboratory for accomplishing social change.

Gutsy, radical, futuristic. These are just a few of the ways to describe the work of this week’s grantee. And we would know. Our team still hasn’t stopped talking about it.

A nonprofit, living laboratory for accomplishing social change, Creating the Future is a bit like adventures in philanthropy. Since its inception, the organization has been experimenting with the most effective and practical ways to create the healthy, vibrant future we all want for our world.

After 10 years of working in the nonprofit and social enterprise space, Creating the Future made a vital discovery: transparency and participation were central to making dramatic community improvement the norm, rather than the exception.

In an effort to develop an open and participatory framework, CTF busted out the “walls” of the organization and began live-streaming all internal meetings (read: resource development, branding, strategy AND EVEN BOARD MEETINGS). What’s more, anyone watching can now ask questions and share ideas.

It takes some serious cojones to put the innards of an organization on display, and we feel confident there are a lot of folks will learn a great deal from these conversations. Brava to Creating the Future for, well, maybe creating the future.
