Grant #299

The Doula Project

June 18, 2018

For thousands of years, women gave birth without help from doctors because the women helped each other. Women still do this for other women as a labor of love.

Do you know what a “doula” is? Millions of mothers know because a doula was in the delivery room with them, providing emotional, physical, and educational support throughout the entire process.

The Doula Project is a volunteer-run, collectively-led organization of over 50 doulas, who are committed to helping pregnant people regardless of their situation (including tough ones, such as when there will not be a healthy full-term baby).

This Awesome Without Borders grant will help pay for training for new doulas who are interested in doing this sometimes-challenging work. We love that The Doula Project works to make every experience as inclusive as possible so that nobody who needs a doula feels judged.
