A New Documentary Film Demands Justice for People with Intellectual Disabilities on Death Row
In 2002, the Supreme Court declared that it was unconstitutional to execute people with intellectual disabilities. Two decades later, the practice continues, and it disproportionately affects poor, Black, and Hispanic defendants.
Rock Grant is an Air Force veteran and a documentary filmmaker, and he’s determined to tell the story of this injustice. He’s working on “Execution by Numbers,” an independent documentary film that will examine this brutal practice and hopefully illuminate what we all can do to demand its end. “For people with intellectual disabilities,” Rock explains, “the skids to death row are greased because they are led into false confessions, tend to have difficulty assisting in their own defense, often fail to comprehend the consequences of their actions, and are unable to understand the death penalty.”
Rock will use the funds from our grant to help support a social media campaign and pay for production costs, from equipment rentals to the purchase of external hard drives. We are proud to amplify his call for justice.
