Grant #217

The Mission

November 7, 2016

This new web series tackles the serious while staying true to its funny side.

With comedy at its core, episode after episode pokes fun at the absurdities of international diplomacy (think VEEP meets Parks & Rec meets the United Nations), all while shedding light on critical issues like climate change, women’s empowerment, and the refugee crisis. Through the personal leadership of Jaz Rizkalla — a Canadian diplomat who is the show’s main character — the women and girls around her (and watching) begin to see themselves as leaders at the UN and beyond. And you know that we’re always down for that kind o’ girl power thang here at Awesome Without Borders.

Support for this amazing project comes from all corners. Awesome Without Borders is pairing with Sundance New Voices Lab, New York TV Festival, and Participant Media in providing support for this show. With the AWB grant, the writers Marie-Marguerite Sabongui and Benedict Moran will bring their team together for a weeklong writer’s workshop in New York City to do research, refine the show’s pitch, write draft episodes, and plan their first marketing campaign.

Yes and onward!
