Grant #9

People Helping Improve Life (PHIL-Athens)

April 15, 2013

Donate to your favorite nonprofit without spending a dime?! Yep! Keep reading…

We were surprised when we read the PHIL-Athens application from Michael Rausher and John Hiner. Not only did the duo aim to tackle poverty and redefine consumerism in Athens, Georgia, but they expected local businesses to foot the bill. The submission evoked a sense of wonderment; it was wildly ambitious and it was working!

PHIL, an acronym for People Helping Improve Life, is a tech-based marketing company that aims to provide an easy, convenient, and effective way for people to support causes at no cost to themselves. Donors are able to choose which Athens-area businesses will donate on their behalf, thereby raising money for local nonprofit organizations AND supporting socially responsible business.

In addition to its current model, PHIL-Athens is hosting their 1st Community Crawl April 26-27. Participating sponsors Pita Pit & The Grotto will donate 33% of sales during those two days to the nonprofits selected by patrons. Learn how you can participate by visiting their website and joining the conversation on Facebook and Twitter.
