Emergency Travel Funds – Elevated Access

Elevated Access isn’t Aladdin, but it is in the business of offering magic carpet rides. The nonprofit organization helps people access essential healthcare by providing free plane travel to patients who need it. Until now, its volunteer pilot network has transported clients who need an abortion or gender-affirming care to places that can provide those services legally. But as threats to bodily autonomy rise across the United States, the need for Elevated Access’s work is growing. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court, abortion has been banned in 13 states. And according to the Trans Legislation Tracker, 591 anti-trans bills have been introduced in statehouses around the country in 2023 alone. 

Teuta Harrier, Elevated Access’s assistant director of advocacy, tells us that the organization doesn’t believe in “leaving anyone behind,” so she and her team are now raising money to fund commercial travel to supplement the work of the nonprofit’s volunteer pilots. Our funds will pay for airline tickets for people seeking an abortion or gender-affirming care. We can’t wait to live in a whole new world where Elevated Access’s services aren’t necessary. But in the meantime, we’re glad to help play genie.
