Grant #123

Street Symphony

January 5, 2015

Healing the world, one note at a time.

Vijay Gupta is one of many performers who compose the Street Symphony, a gathering of many of the world’s finest musicians. Only, you won’t find this ensemble playing at the nearest opera house or concert hall. If you want to hear their moving sounds of grace, you may have to pay a visit to Skid Row or the county jail.

What makes Street Symphony unique among social saviors is their unwavering belief in the power of music to heal people and forge unbreakable bonds. Dedicated to those who’ve found themselves living or incarcerated along society’s fringes, their mission is a sonic signal for change. And by bringing renewed hope and beauty to those who have seen less than society’s best, a path to more peace and understanding is being paved for all.

This AWB grant will be put towards producing a video podcast series, allowing everyone access into their wonderful world of beautiful music making. They want to share as much of their stories, light, and beauty with the world as possible — and that dear friends, is why the internet was born!
